Top 5 Books by Stephen King

I have been a die hard fan of Stephan King’s novels since my teenage years. He is a master of Evil tales and had such mayhem on my mind that I couldn’t escape the horrendous fright keeping me awake whole night long for hours and hours. I remember most of his stories and therefore recollecting the content wasn't a herculean task. Therefore, I have listed here my 5 best picks, from his tremendous treasure of work. These Top 5 books by Stephen King will leave you in awe and you won’t be able to resist them from reading again and again, such is the enchantment that he creates through his horror sagas. He is indeed a King in his realm. Some of his books such as – The Green Mile, Misery, Sometimes They Come Back have been gravely applauded.  Many of his books even have been captured in movies and TV series, out of which the latest was “The Mist”. I now hereby present the greatest of his novels of all time, each escorted by a little synopsis.

  1. The Stand (1978)

The story tells us about a man who finds an escape from a biological weapon center after an unfortunate accident and consequently carrying with him a deadly virus called, “Captain Tripps”, which spreads swiftly in the coming time plaguing the whole world. Later, the survivors of this transforming flu are stuck into a situation, where they have to choose among good or evil, i.e. an elderly black woman or the evil man, Randall Flagg.

  1. Carrie (1974)

‘Carrie’ is the story of a high-school teenage girl, named Carrie White, who is an oddball among her school mates and gradually discovers that she possess psychic powers. She has a mega-religious mother, who dominates and torments all her efforts to mingle at her school and lead a life of a normal girl.

3. Misery (1987)

This story revolves around Novelist Paul Sheldon, who goes through the tough transit of his earlier work of writing historical romances, characterizing Misery Chastain as her lead female, into publishing a fictional book. A die hard admirer of Sheldon and an ex-nurse, Annie Wilkes, saves his life in a road accident. Later while curing his injuries at her remote house, she encounters the fact that the writer has killed the heroine Misery in his latest novel. She keeps Sheldon imprisoned until he doesn’t write another book to put Misery back in to life again.

  1. Pet Sematary (1993)

The troublesome highway in front of Dr. Louis Creed’s Old Maine home urges the life of innocent neighborhood pets every now and then. Dr. Louis and his wife Rachel, have recently shifted in this house along with their kids and a pet cat, from Chicago to Ludlow. Neighboring children have created a cemetery for the deceased pets killed by the sturdy flow of vehicles on the ever busy road. Later on Dr. Louis discovers another primeval burial ground inside the deep dark woods, which had some mystical alliance to the killing of their family cat.

5. Salem’s Lot (1975)

Salem’s Lot, which was originally titled as “Second Coming”, is a story that features the creepiest of all fantasy and science fictional creatures, Dracula. Alike any other kid, Stephen King himself was very much fantasized by this zombie character since his early high school days. Finally, he penned down a story spinning around Draculas haunting the New England town under their siege, which later on became one of the best vampire tales written in the history. A must read by King.
